Welcome to the Skinny Dog Shop. Although established in 2020 as just a hobby woodworking shop, SDS has quickly outgrown its "hobby" status. With an emphasis on kitchenware such as cutting boards, charcuterie boards and beautiful wooden coaster sets, our selection is always evolving. Pride in craftsmanship is what the shop is based upon. All of our pieces are handcrafted locally in Covington, LA just north of New Orleans in St Tammany Parish.

The name of the shop comes from our love of rescue animals. We've been volunteers/adopters
with our local LA/MS chapter of Greyhound Pets of America for over twenty years. The group is dedicated to finding forever homes for all the retired racing greyhounds across the country. If your following along on our social media you've probably caught a glimpse of a few skinny dogs in the shop.

Hello, my name is Jason Ruffino I am a native of New Orleans, LA.
The family moved to Abita Springs, LA when I was young and I've been living in the neighboring town of Covington since getting married to my wife, Rebecca. We have one son, two grandsons and many, many fur-kids (rescue pets).
​
My working background has always been that of a craftsman, fifteen years of electrical experience has led into over fifteen years of fabricating copper lanterns for New Orleans oldest and most recognizable gas and electric lighting companies.

Woodworking has been a lifelong passion. In 2020, with a change
in schedule at my full time job, I was afforded the time to turn one of my lifelong passions into a full fledged part time business, the Skinny Dog Shop.
